About the lecture:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

CEDEJ\/Bibliotheca Alexandrina Programme “Digitisation and valorisation of two million Egyptian press clippings” (CEDEJ archives) over 40 years (1970-2010).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
With the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the aim is to digitize, digitize (optical character recognition) and index 2 million Egyptian press clippings, mainly in Arabic. This archive was built up thematically by a team of CEDEJ documentalists over 40 years from 1970 to 2010 and is an invaluable source of information on Egypt. A massive database has been created from this collection including the digitized documents, the digitized version as well as the metadata to describe each press clipping (title, author, theme, subject, keywords, newspaper…etc.). A trilingual (French, English, Arabic) documentary research tool has been created with the http:\/\/cedej.bibalex.org\/<\/a> platform. This portal allows researchers and the general public to follow the evolution of Egyptian society.<\/div>\n

Winner of the CNRS 2017 crystal medal for the creation of a web portal for documentary research cedej.bibalex.com<\/a> valuing two million cuts in the Egyptian press over 40 years (1970-2010). Ambassador of the program \u201cla Science taille XXelle\u201d. Hala Bayoumi is a researcher at the CNRS France (National Center for scientific research) and head of the Digital Humanities cluster at the CEDEJ. After obtaining a doctorate in computer science and mathematics applied to the human and social sciences in Paris (with honours and congratulations from the jury), she received in 2017 a post-doc diploma from the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE) for the development of an interactive and collaborative web portal offering a world map of spatial reference aridity (SIRS) associated with a database (aridityworldmap.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

She is the co-author (with Karine Bennafla) of \u201cthe Atlas of Contemporary Egypt\u201d, 2020 https:\/\/www.cnrseditions.fr\/catalogue\/histoire\/atlas-de-legypte-contemporaine\/<\/a>.<\/div>\n
She is updating with her team the demographic and socio-economic database of Egypt and the country’s administrative map in close collaboration with CAPMAS; she oversees the digitization of part of the collection of the CEDEJ library and the creation of a catalogue for the CEDEJ map library in partnership with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Between 2011 and 2015, Hala Bayoumi worked on Egypt’s electoral sociology programme at the CEDEJ. In order to transmit the knowledge acquired, Hala Bayoumi has set up and coordinated since 2010 a Master’s level diploma in Data Analysis and Spatial Analysis Techniques (GIS 4D) for Egyptian officials from CAPMAS: she herself teaches within this inter-university diploma EPHE-University of Lyon.<\/div>\n
