Created in 1990 as <em>\u00c9gypte\/Monde Arabe<\/em>, <em>ESMA<\/em> has recently become a trilingual publication (English, Arabic, and French). The journal&#8217;s new name,\u00a0<em>\u00c9gypte Soudan Mondes<\/em> <em>Arabes<\/em>, emphasizes the connected histories that bind together the region&#8217;s societies through multiple networks and circulations. It also stresses the plurality of the region, which contains many non-Arab peoples and cultures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>ESMA<\/em> supports field research and publishes the work of junior and senior scholars. We invite papers from multiple fields (sociology, anthropology, political science, geography, urban studies, history, political economy, legal studies, development studies, etc.) that contribute to a better understanding of social change and bring in new theoretical vistas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>ESMA<\/em> is available for free <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.openedition.org\/ema\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the Open Edition platform<\/a> one year after the date of publication. Before that, articles are in limited access <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cairn.info\/revue-egypte-monde-arabe.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the Cairn platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submit an article or a special issue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several types of contributions may be submitted to ESMA. <strong>Varias\u00a0<\/strong>(maximum 8000 words) are research article featuring an original, theoretically informed argument on contemporary Egypt, Sudan or the Arab World.\u00a0<strong>Research Notes\u00a0<\/strong>(3000-5000 words) are short pieces on a methodological, theoretical, empirical or ethical aspect of the research in social science in the region.\u00a0<strong>Sources and Materials<\/strong> (maximum 4000 words) are short reflections on what constitutes an archive, and may feature iconographic or textual documents, including interviews or chronologies. To submit a Varia, a Research Note, or a note on Source and Materials, email <a href=\"mailto:esma.journal@protonmail.com\">esma.journal@protonmail.com<\/a> with a complete text or an abstract, and write the type of article you wish to propose in the email title.<\/p>\n<p>To submit a\u00a0<strong>Special Issue<\/strong>, i.e. a group of articles on a common theme, email <a href=\"mailto:esma.journal@protonmail.com\">esma.journal@protonmail.com<\/a> with a description and a bibliography (1500 words), along with either 5 to 8 abstracts of existing articles (400 words each) or a call for papers.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, to submit a\u00a0<strong>Book Review<\/strong> or a film or exhibition review (maximum 1000 words), email Luisa Arango (<span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"mailto:luisa.arango@cedejkhartoum.com\">luisa.arango@cedejkhartoum.com<\/a>) <\/span>and Dalia Wahdan (<a href=\"mailto:dewahdan@gmail.com\"><span class=\"s1\">dewahdan@gmail.com<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Articles go through a double blind evaluation process, and are seen by at least two reviewers.
